1.What type of fire extinguisher is recommended to use in a kitchen?

2. Where can I recharge my fire extinguisher?

3. How do I get a copy of a fire or EMS report?

  Requests must be submitted in writing to TLMFPD Administrative office at 166 2nd Street, Monument, mailed to P.O. Box 2668 Monument, CO 80132, or faxed to (719) 481-3456.

4. How do I report a fire code violation?

  Call  the TLMFPD non-emergent number (719)484-0911 to speak with the Fire Marshal.

5. Where do I report a leaky or broken fire hydrant?

  Contact Monument Water at (719)389-3229 or your local water district.

6. How do I set up a station tour?

  Contact TLMFPD Administration at (719)484-0911

7. My smoke detector is “chirping.” What should I do?

  A chirping smoke detector signals that it is time to change the batteries. Batteries should be changed twice a year.

8. My carbon monoxide detector is alarming. What should I do?

  Contact Black Hills Gas at 1(800) 694-8989.  If you have any abnormal medical symptoms, call 911. Leave the house immediately.  Leave all doors and windows closed while waiting for emergency responders.

9.  Do I need a permit to have an outdoor cooking fire in my backyard?

  Contact Fire Marshal at (719) 484-0911

10. My neighbor is burning trash in his backyard. What should I do?

  Burning trash is illegal. Call 911 immediately for fire response.

11. Am I allowed to burn brush in my yard?  

  A permit is required by the Colorado State health Department and from TLMFPD.

12. How can I dispose of hazardous materials, such as paint, oil or gasoline?

  Contact El Paso County Waste Division at (719) 520-7878

13. Where can I go to get my blood pressure checked?

  All TLMFPD fire stations will provide blood pressure checks free of charge between the hours of 8am-5pm, if personnel is available.

14. Can my teenager complete community service hours at a fire station?

  We do provide community service hours to teens for under 5 hours. Contact TLMFPD Administrative office at  (719)484-0911 to schedule.

15. What are the educational and physical requirements to be a firefighter and or resident for your department? 

  Current  CPAT, Current Colorado and or National Registry  EMT Basic certification,  Colorado Division of Fire Safety Fire Fighter 1 certification, and high school diploma.
