FAQs

  1. What time commitment is required to become a cadet?

Cadets can put in as much time as they like.  Cadets may spend time at the station on the weekends, and may stay over night if it is not a school night.  They may also spend time after school, but may only stay until 9:00 PM.  The highest priority of the Fire Cadets is their school requirements.

  2. What do I need to become a cadet?

To become a cadet, you must fill out an application, by contacting Lead Cadet Matt Zubiel at firecadet@monumentfire.org.

  3. What must I do in order to run calls?

To go on calls, you must do the following:

   - Complete a check-off sheet on Engine 2211.

   - Complete a check-off sheet on Ambulance 2281.

   - Complete 10 dispatches.

To complete a check-off sheet for the Engine and the Ambulance, ask your shift officer to go through the apparatus with you.  Once you know you can list the major items in each compartment without looking, ask the officer to complete the check-off form.  You will then go around the apparatus, listing each item in each closed compartment.

To complete your dispatches, ask the officer to run you through how to dispatch, and how to fill out the required paperwork.  You must then dispatch 10 under the supervision of station-1 staff.

After those items have been completed, e-mail the lead cadet stating that you have your requirements checked off.

  1. What calls can and can't cadets run on?

Cadets are very restricted on the type of calls they can go to and what duties they can perform, these are stated in the Fire Cadet Guidelines.  If a cadet is ever unsure about whether he/she can run on a call, they should ask their shift/station officer.

  1. Where will I be stationed?

During your first year of being a cadet, you will be stationed at Station 1, 18650 Highway 105 (next to the Palmer Lake Bowling Alley).  After that time, you may choose to go to another station if you wish.
